Can a bank transfer be reversed in Pakistan?

A completed transfer is hard to cancel. Act quickly, keep the reference, and contact the sending bank or wallet.

Short answer If the transfer is still pending or failed, the provider can investigate whether the money will be returned automatically. If it is already successful, contact the sender’s bank or wallet at once. JazzCash’s account terms say that once customer instructions are received, a transaction is fixed and final and cannot later be changed or reversed. Raast settles payments in real time, so checking the recipient before confirming matters.

At a glance

  • Do not send another transfer to “fix” the first one.
  • Save the transaction ID, date, amount and recipient details.
  • Contact the sender’s bank or wallet immediately.
  • Do not ask the recipient for a PIN, OTP or password.
  • Escalate an unresolved complaint through the institution’s official complaint route, then the regulator’s channel if needed.

First check the transaction status

Open the app or statement and look for the exact status.

Status What it means for your next step
Pending or processing Do not send again. Ask the provider whether the transfer is still being processed or will be returned
Failed or declined Check whether your balance was debited. If it was, report the transaction reference and ask for a trace
Successful Report the mistake immediately. The provider may contact the receiving institution, but recovery is not automatic
You did not authorise it Treat it as a security incident: call the provider, secure the account and file a formal complaint

A screenshot helps, but the transaction reference in the app or statement is the important record.

What JazzCash says about reversal

JazzCash’s account terms state that after customer instructions are received, the transaction is considered fixed and final. The terms also say those instructions cannot subsequently be changed or reversed.

That does not stop you from reporting an error or an unauthorised transaction. It means you should not assume the app has a cancellation window after a successful transfer.

Use the official channels on JazzCash complaints. JazzCash’s contact page lists its customer helpline and says unresolved complaints can be escalated through the State Bank of Pakistan’s Sunwai portal or the Banking Mohtasib.

What changes with Raast

Raast is Pakistan’s instant payment system. The State Bank of Pakistan describes it as providing real-time settlement across participating banks and regulated payment providers.

Because the payment moves in real time, check the displayed account title or recipient details before you confirm. If you sent to the wrong person, call the sending institution immediately with the Raast transaction reference. Do not rely on a later cancellation.

Read Raast charges and limits for the payment rules and IBFT charges for transfers that use the IBFT rail.

What to give the bank or wallet

Prepare these details before you call or submit a complaint:

  • transaction reference or trace number;
  • date and time;
  • exact amount;
  • sending account or wallet;
  • recipient account, IBAN, mobile number or Raast ID shown in the receipt;
  • the status displayed in the app;
  • a short explanation of whether the transfer was mistaken or unauthorised.

Never publish the receipt or the recipient’s personal information on social media. Give it only through the institution’s official complaint channel.

If the recipient contacts you

If you receive money you were not expecting, do not move it to another account and do not return it through instructions sent by a stranger. Contact your own bank or wallet and ask them to verify the original transaction. A scammer may send a fake receipt or ask you to send a separate payment.

Likewise, if you sent money to the wrong recipient, do not ask for their OTP, PIN or password. The transfer provider should handle the trace through its formal process.

If the provider does not resolve the complaint

Start with the bank or wallet’s own complaint process and keep the complaint number. For wallet-specific routes, see JazzCash complaints and Easypaisa complaints.

JazzCash’s official contact page points unresolved customers to the SBP Sunwai portal ↗ and the Banking Mohtasib Pakistan ↗. Escalation is for a complaint the institution has not resolved; it does not guarantee that a completed mistaken transfer will be recovered.

Questions

Can I cancel a bank transfer after sending it?

Usually not from the app after it shows as successful. Report it immediately to the sending bank or wallet and ask for a trace.

Can JazzCash reverse a transfer to the wrong number?

JazzCash’s terms say received customer instructions are fixed and final and cannot later be changed or reversed. You should still report the mistake immediately through the official complaint route.

Can a Raast transfer be cancelled?

Raast settles payments in real time. If you sent to the wrong recipient, contact the sending institution immediately with the transaction reference; do not assume a cancellation window exists.

What if money was deducted but the transfer failed?

Do not send again. Save the reference and ask the provider to confirm whether the transfer is pending, failed or due for a return.

Where can I escalate an unresolved complaint?

First use the institution’s formal complaint process. The SBP Sunwai portal and Banking Mohtasib are official escalation routes referenced by JazzCash for unresolved complaints.
