An Asaan Account is a bank plan with easy checks, set limits, safe use, and a way into a full bank as your needs grow.
SBP created the category for low-risk customers who are unbanked or underbanked, then raised its limits in 2022 for people who are new to formal banking.
Short answer An Asaan Account has a total monthly debit limit of Rs1,000,000 and a maximum credit balance of Rs1,000,000 under SBP’s April 13, 2022 revision. It is for resident Pakistani individuals. If those limits no longer fit, the bank can convert it to a regular account after completing the additional customer checks that apply.
| Limit | Asaan Account |
|---|---|
| Total debits in one month | Rs1,000,000 |
| Maximum credit balance | Rs1,000,000 |

The monthly debit limit measures money leaving the account during a month. The balance limit is the most the account may hold at one time. They are separate controls: an account can remain below Rs1,000,000 at every moment and still reach its monthly debit ceiling after several payments or withdrawals.
The SBP circular revised the regulatory limits for the account category. A bank’s own product page may set operational controls for a card, app, ATM or individual transfer. Read both the bank’s key fact statement and its schedule of charges before opening the account.
SBP introduced the Asaan Account as a simplified account for low-risk customers, especially people outside formal banking. The official FAQ says it is intended for resident individuals with Pakistani nationality. It is not the same product as a Roshan Digital Account for non-residents.
A bank still has to identify the customer and apply its compliance controls. “Simplified” does not mean anonymous, and it does not guarantee approval. The bank may ask questions needed to understand the applicant, the expected account activity and the source of funds.
For a teenager aged 13 to 18, SBP now has a separate teenager account framework. That framework names the teenager as the account holder and requires a parent or guardian to accept legal responsibility. It should not be confused with an ordinary Asaan Account opened by an adult.
The exact form and channel vary by bank, so start with the bank’s official account-opening page. A practical sequence is:
Do not send identity documents, a PIN or a one-time password through an unofficial message or call. Use the bank’s website, app, branch or published helpline.
An Asaan Account describes the low-risk account category introduced under the 2015 guidelines. An Asaan Digital Account is opened through a digital onboarding route. The names are related, but the opening channel and bank interface are not the only details that matter.
Before choosing, compare the exact bank product on five points:
Do not assume every bank offers the same card, app features or service charges just because the regulatory account category is the same.
Suppose an account starts the month with Rs300,000. The holder receives Rs400,000 and later sends Rs250,000. The ending balance is Rs450,000, below the maximum credit balance. The Rs250,000 transfer counts toward the month’s total debit limit.
If the holder then makes more outgoing transfers or withdrawals, those debits accumulate for the month. Reaching the Rs1,000,000 monthly debit ceiling does not mean the account held Rs1,000,000 at once.
A bank can show pending, reversed or failed transactions differently in its interface. If the available limit looks wrong, ask the bank how it treats that transaction rather than attempting repeated transfers.
SBP’s original guidance allows an Asaan Account to be converted when the customer needs services above the category’s limits. The bank then completes the additional due-diligence requirements that apply to the regular account.
Conversion can make sense when:
Ask the bank which documents it needs and whether the account number, card or digital access will change. SBP sets the regulatory framework, but the bank handles the conversion process.
These are not interchangeable. The same April 2022 circular lists separate rules for the Asaan Remittance Account:
| Limit | Asaan Remittance Account |
|---|---|
| Maximum credit balance | Rs3,000,000 |
| Cash withdrawal | Rs500,000 per day |
| Transfer to another account | Rs500,000 per day |
| Local credits | Rs1,000,000 per month |
The circular also says commercial remittances are not allowed. If money is being sent from abroad, check whether the intended account is an ordinary Asaan Account, an Asaan Remittance Account or another product. The receiving money from abroad guide explains the identifiers and formal channels a sender may need.
The SBP limit circular does not publish one fee schedule for every bank. Fees, card charges, ATM charges and minimum-balance conditions must be checked on the selected bank’s current product documents.
A fee shown on another bank’s page is not evidence for your account. The same applies to promotional “free” features: confirm whether the offer is permanent, time-limited or conditional.
Warning A bank should not ask for your PIN, password or one-time code in an unsolicited call or message. Do not pay a person who claims they can bypass the bank’s identity checks or account limits.

The official Asaan Account FAQ describes the product for resident Pakistani individuals. Non-residents should check the Roshan Digital Account and the bank’s current non-resident options instead of assuming Asaan eligibility.
No. For an Asaan Account, SBP’s 2022 circular sets total debits at Rs1,000,000 per month and the maximum credit balance at Rs1,000,000.
The account category and the separate Asaan Remittance Account have different rules. Ask the bank which product is being opened and how the expected funds will be credited. For money from abroad, use a formal channel and provide the exact account or wallet details requested by the receiving institution.
Yes. SBP’s guidance allows conversion to a regular account after the additional customer checks are completed.
No. The regulatory category is shared, but banks can differ in channel, card access, app functions, fees and service process. Compare the bank’s own current documents.
