Bank Alfalah IBAN: find yours with the official generator

Short answer A Bank Alfalah IBAN is a 24-character Pakistani account identifier beginning with PK. Use Bank Alfalah’s own generator on its Accounts page and enter your own account number exactly as the bank records it. Do not copy the example shown on the page. The example is instructional; it is not your account.

Bank Alfalah places its IBAN generator near the bottom of its official Accounts page. The bank’s form asks for an account number and returns an IBAN. The same page displays a worked example beginning PK44ALFH, which shows the bank identifier in context but must never be used for a real transfer.

How a Pakistani IBAN is built

SBP’s implementation guidelines define one fixed format for Pakistan:

Part Length What it means
Country code 2 letters PK for Pakistan
Check digits 2 digits Calculated with the MOD 97-10 method
Bank identifier 4 letters The first four characters of the institution’s SWIFT BIC, or another code assigned under the guidelines
Account code 16 characters The bank’s account-code field

That makes 24 characters in total. Bank Alfalah’s generator example uses ALFH in the bank-identifier position. The remaining account-code characters belong to the specific account.

The check digits can catch many typing and transposition errors. A valid checksum does not prove that an account is open, belongs to the named person, accepts a particular currency or can receive a specific type of transfer.

How to get your Bank Alfalah IBAN

  1. Open Bank Alfalah’s Accounts page.
  2. Scroll to Generate your IBAN.
  3. Enter the account number in the fields exactly as it appears in your Bank Alfalah records.
  4. Select Generate.
  5. Compare the returned name and account details with your own records before sharing the IBAN.

The generator currently shows two account-number fields. Follow the labels and formatting displayed by the live bank form. Do not add a branch code, extra zero or space because a third-party article says to do so.

If the form does not accept the number, stop and check the account record supplied by the bank. Do not keep changing digits until the form returns something. Bank Alfalah publishes its contact details on the same official site for cases that need confirmation.

What to give a sender

For a transfer, the sender may ask for more than the IBAN. Prepare:

  • the beneficiary name exactly as registered;
  • the generated IBAN;
  • the bank name, Bank Alfalah Limited;
  • the account currency;
  • the purpose of the payment; and
  • any additional routing detail requested by the sending bank or service.

An IBAN identifies the account in a standard form. It does not replace every field in an international payment instruction. The sender’s institution decides which beneficiary, routing and compliance details it needs.

If the sender asks for a SWIFT or BIC, use a bank-confirmed code for the account and transfer route. Do not derive a full eight- or eleven-character BIC solely from the four-letter identifier inside an IBAN.

IBAN, account number and SWIFT are different

Detail Job
Account number Identifies the account inside the bank’s own system
IBAN Packages country, check digits, bank identifier and account code in a standard 24-character Pakistani format
SWIFT/BIC Identifies a financial institution, and sometimes a branch, in SWIFT messaging

A sender may request both an IBAN and a SWIFT/BIC. Giving one does not automatically answer the other.

For the wider format, see What is an IBAN?. Our Pakistan IBAN checker can test length, structure and checksum. It cannot look inside Bank Alfalah’s customer system or confirm ownership.

Common mistakes

Copying the bank’s example

The example on Bank Alfalah’s page is not a customer lookup result. It demonstrates the format. Every account holder must generate or obtain the IBAN assigned to their own account.

Removing leading zeroes

The SBP guidelines allow banks to use the 16-character account-code space according to their own account structure, including left-padding where needed. Removing a zero can change the identifier and invalidate the checksum.

Sending a screenshot without checking the text

Screenshots can be cropped or old. Copy the IBAN as text, then compare the first and last characters with the bank record. Ask the sender to confirm the beneficiary name shown by their payment service where that facility is available.

Treating a successful checksum as proof of ownership

Checksum validation checks the string, not the person. Never send money only because a third-party checker says an IBAN is valid. Confirm the beneficiary through a trusted channel.

Typing spaces into a form that expects none

IBANs are often printed in groups of four for readability. Electronic forms commonly require the continuous 24-character string. Follow the receiving form’s instructions.

Safety before you share an IBAN

An IBAN is meant to receive and route payments, but it is still account information. Share it only with the person or organisation that needs to pay you. Never disclose your password, PIN, card security code or one-time code alongside it.

A bank or genuine sender does not need your login password to use an IBAN. If someone asks for a one-time code to “activate” an incoming payment, stop and contact Bank Alfalah through the details on its official website.

For an account that has only just been opened, wait for Bank Alfalah’s confirmation before treating it as ready. The Bank Alfalah account-opening guide explains the separate RAPID application route.

Questions

How many characters are in a Bank Alfalah IBAN?

A Pakistani IBAN has 24 characters under SBP’s format. Bank Alfalah IBANs follow that national structure.

Does every Bank Alfalah IBAN start with the same characters?

They begin with Pakistan’s country code PK, followed by account-specific check digits. The four-letter bank identifier follows. Do not assume the same two check digits apply to every account.

Can I calculate the IBAN from an account number myself?

The checksum formula is public, but the safe route is Bank Alfalah’s official generator or a bank-issued record. A correct formula still depends on the exact account code the bank uses.

Can ptvold confirm that an IBAN belongs to someone?

No. ptvold can explain and validate the published format, but only the bank and the relevant payment systems can confirm an account and beneficiary.

Is the IBAN enough for an international transfer?

Not always. The sender may also need the beneficiary name, bank name, SWIFT/BIC, purpose and other details required by its institution.
