Raast ID: how to register, use and change the linked account

A Raast ID links your mobile number to one account so people can send local Raast payments without your IBAN.

You register it through a participating bank or payment provider. Registration is useful for receiving money, but it is not required when you only want to send a payment.

Official guidance checked: State Bank of Pakistan’s Raast person-to-person page, Raast FAQ and DISD Circular No. 1 of 2022 were reviewed on October 26, 2026. Your bank decides which channels it offers and its transaction limits.

The short answer

  • What the ID is: a mobile number linked to one account.
  • How many: SBP says an individual can register one Raast ID with one linked account.
  • Where to register: a channel offered by your bank or regulated payment provider, such as its app, internet banking, a branch or USSD.
  • Do you need one to send money? No. You can send to another person’s registered Raast ID or, where supported, their IBAN.
  • Can you move it to another bank? Yes. De-link it from the current account, then re-link it through the new provider.
  • Can it receive money from abroad? The current person-to-person Raast service described in SBP’s FAQ is for local transfers within Pakistan.
  • Charges: SBP’s current FAQ says there are no charges on Raast transactions. Check the confirmation screen and your bank’s current tariff before approving any payment.

What a Raast ID changes

An IBAN identifies an account. A Raast ID gives that account a simpler receiving address: the mobile number you registered. The sender selects Raast, enters the ID, reviews the beneficiary details shown by the bank and confirms the amount.

The ID does not create a second account and it does not hold money. Funds arrive in the account linked by your bank or provider. If you change the linked account, future payments to the ID should go to the newly linked account after the change is complete.

For the wider payment system, see Raast in Pakistan. If you are choosing between the two domestic rails, compare IBFT and Raast.

How to register a Raast ID

The exact labels differ by provider, but SBP describes the same basic sequence:

  1. Open a Raast-enabled channel offered by your bank or provider.
  2. Find the option to manage or register a Raast ID.
  3. Authenticate using the provider’s normal process.
  4. Confirm the mobile number and the account you want to link.
  5. Save the confirmation that the registration succeeded.

Do not assume that opening an account automatically registers the mobile number as a Raast ID. Look for a successful registration message in the bank’s channel.

Only register through an official banking channel. A caller, chat account or social-media page does not need your PIN, password, one-time code or card details to send money to your Raast ID.

How to receive a payment

Give the sender the mobile number registered as your Raast ID. Before the sender confirms, their bank should show beneficiary information. Ask them to check that the displayed name and other details match the intended recipient.

After the payment is sent:

  • check your account balance or transaction history in the official app or statement;
  • keep the transaction reference;
  • do not rely on a screenshot alone;
  • do not send goods or a refund merely because a message says the transfer is complete.

SBP’s FAQ says a successful transaction should trigger an SMS or email notification from the bank. Notifications can be delayed, so the receiving account record is the better check.

How to send without registering an ID

You do not need your own Raast ID to send a payment. Use a Raast-enabled channel and enter either the recipient’s registered Raast ID or an IBAN supported by the participating bank.

Review the recipient details and amount before confirming. A Raast ID is convenient, but it does not remove the need to check the beneficiary. If you send to the wrong person, contact your bank immediately with the reference. See Can a bank transfer be reversed in Pakistan? for the evidence and complaint steps.

Change the bank linked to your Raast ID

SBP says you can de-link the ID from the current account and re-link it to another account. Start with the provider that currently holds the registration. Its app or support team can explain the de-linking route.

A cautious sequence is:

  1. confirm which account currently receives payments to the ID;
  2. de-link the ID through that provider;
  3. wait for confirmation;
  4. register the same mobile number through the new provider;
  5. make a small test transfer and confirm where it arrives.

Do not keep using the ID during an uncertain transfer between providers. If a registration attempt says the number is already linked, contact the current provider instead of repeatedly creating requests.

Limits, availability and international use

SBP does not publish one consumer transfer limit for every provider on the FAQ page. It tells users to ask their bank about its Raast limits. Your account level, provider controls and channel may affect the amount you can send.

Raast is designed as always-on instant payment infrastructure, but a bank’s app, maintenance window or fraud check can affect a specific payment. “Instant” does not mean you should repeat a payment immediately when the result is unclear. Check the status and account history first.

The person-to-person FAQ says Raast is currently for local transfers within Pakistan. Receiving a home remittance is a different workflow. For those routes, start with receiving money from abroad in Pakistan.

If a Raast payment is missing

First check whether the transaction is pending, failed or completed. Save the reference, amount, time, sender and recipient details. Then contact the sending bank or provider through its official support channel.

SBP directs Raast complaints to the bank’s existing customer support or helpline. If the bank does not resolve the matter, use the documented escalation route. Our Raast transfer not received guide lists the evidence to keep and the official complaint path.

Questions

Is my Raast ID the same as my IBAN?

No. A Raast ID is currently a mobile number linked to an account. An IBAN is the account’s international bank account identifier.

Can one mobile number link to two accounts?

SBP says an individual can register one Raast ID with one linked account. De-link it before moving it to another account.

Do I need a Raast ID to send money?

No. Registration is needed when you want to receive through the mobile-number ID. You can send to another person’s ID or an IBAN through a participating provider.

Can someone take money with only my Raast ID?

A Raast ID is a receiving identifier, not an authorisation to debit your account. Still, never disclose passwords, PINs or one-time codes to a person claiming they need them to send you money.

Are Raast transfers free?

SBP’s current person-to-person FAQ says there are no charges on Raast transactions. Check your provider’s current terms and the confirmation screen because products and tariffs can change.
