MCB Bank SWIFT code: MUCBPKKA

Short answer The MCB Bank SWIFT code is MUCBPKKA. MCB publishes this 8-character code, plus a separate code, MUCBPKKARDA, for payments to its Roshan Digital Accounts. It does not publish SWIFT codes for its branches.

Where the code comes from

MCB prints its SWIFT code in its guidelines for sending money to an MCB Roshan Digital Account, published on its digital account portal: “Use MCB SWIFT Code (MUCBPKKA) in field 56A (Intermediary Institution BIC) of MT 103”. The same instructions are in the portal’s FAQ. The first four letters, MUCB, are also the bank code inside every MCB IBAN; MCB’s IBAN page calls it the “SWIFT BIC Code”.

We did not find the code on an MCB page outside its Roshan Digital Account material.

Is there a separate code for each MCB branch?

MCB does not publish branch-level SWIFT codes or an 11-character head-office form. Code-lookup websites show other codes for MCB, but the bank does not confirm them, so we don’t list them.

The one extra code MCB does publish is MUCBPKKARDA, for Roshan Digital Accounts (RDA) only. MCB’s guidelines tell RDA holders to ask their sending bank to put MUCBPKKA in field 56A, MUCBPKKARDA in field 57A and “ROSHANDIGITAL” in field 72 of the SWIFT payment message. The portal’s FAQ gives field 57A as MUCBPKKA instead, so RDA holders should confirm with MCB’s Roshan Digital unit (rdu@mcb.com.pk) before sending. Don’t use the RDA code for an ordinary account.

If a sender’s bank asks for a branch-level code, call MCB on 111-000-622 before the money is sent.

SWIFT code and IBAN are different

The SWIFT code identifies the bank. The IBAN (International Bank Account Number) identifies your own account. A sender abroad usually needs both.

MCB describes its IBAN as 24 characters:

MCB’s own example: account number 0646609971000177 gives the IBAN PK24 MUCB 0646 6099 7100 0177. This is the bank’s sample, not a real account. MCB asks customers to give their IBAN to everyone they expect an international remittance or inter-bank transfer from. MCB’s website also has an IBAN Generator.

Receiving money from abroad

For a bank transfer, give the sender the details in the box above: the bank’s full name, MUCBPKKA and your 24-character IBAN. MCB does not publish a full list of the details a sender needs, so the sender’s bank or money transfer company may ask for more, such as your name exactly as on the account.

MCB lists these home remittance services:

  • MCB Burqraftaar Cash: cash over the counter of up to Rs1,000,000 at any MCB branch, with no bank account needed, and an SMS alert if the sender gives your mobile number.
  • MCB Burqraftaar Transfer: instant credit to MCB and non-MCB accounts, free of charge. For other banks, MCB transfers the money online through RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) or IBFT (Inter Bank Funds Transfer), or by bank draft.

MCB also says it does not charge Roshan Digital Account holders any inward remittance charges; the sender’s bank and intermediary banks may still take fees.
