Where the code comes from

Allied Bank prints its SWIFT code above its list of nostro accounts (its accounts with foreign correspondent banks) on abl.com: “Allied Bank Limited Pakistan SWIFT Code: ABPAPKKA”. The same page answers “What Is the SWIFT Code for Allied Bank?” with “The SWIFT code for Allied Bank is ABPAPKKAXXX.” Its instructions for Canadian dollar payments name the beneficiary as “Allied Bank Limited, Lahore — SWIFT: ABPAPKKA”.

The first four letters, ABPA, are also the bank code inside every Allied Bank IBAN.

Is there a separate code for each Allied Bank branch?

Allied Bank’s page says: “Replace the last three characters (XXX) with your specific branch code.” But the bank does not publish a list of these 11-character branch codes, and we found no abl.com page that shows one. Code-lookup websites list branch codes for Allied Bank, but the bank does not confirm them, so we don’t repeat them.

If a sender’s bank asks for an 11-character code, ask your branch or the Allied Contact Center on 042-111-225-225 which code to use before the money is sent. Otherwise, give ABPAPKKA.

SWIFT code and IBAN are different

The SWIFT code identifies the bank. The IBAN (International Bank Account Number) identifies your own account. A sender abroad usually needs both.

Allied Bank says an IBAN includes:

  • country code, such as PK
  • check digits
  • bank code and branch code
  • your account number

Allied Bank’s own example is PK36ABPA0000123456789012. This is the bank’s format sample, not a real account.

Receiving money from abroad

For a bank transfer, give the sender the details in the box above: the bank’s full name, ABPAPKKA and your full IBAN. Allied Bank does not publish a full list of the details a sender needs, so the sender’s bank or money transfer company may ask for more, such as your name exactly as on the account.

Allied Bank says remittances can be collected at its branches or deposited directly into an account with Allied Bank or any other bank in Pakistan, and that “receiving remittance through Allied Bank is free of charge”.

  • Cash at a branch: you don’t need a bank account. Bring your original CNIC (computerised national identity card) and the remittance reference number from the sender. Branches open on Saturday also pay remittances during working hours. Allied Bank’s home remittance pages do not state a cash limit.
  • Account credit: into an Allied Bank account or an account at another bank in Pakistan.
  • Allied Express Account: Allied Bank’s account for remittance receivers, which it says has instant funds transfer, easy withdrawals and no minimum balance.

Warning Allied Bank says it “never asks Customer for personal information (User ID, password, PIN, OTP, Transactional PIN, Mother’s Maiden Name, Card Number, Card Expiry, CVV)” through calls, links, SMS, email or social media. It also says: “the Bank never calls their customer from 111-225-225”. That number only receives calls, so a call from it asking for your details is not the bank. If you notice anything suspicious, change your password and call Allied Phone Banking on 111-225-225.
