Meezan Bank account opening: online and at a branch

Short answer You can open a Meezan Bank account online through the Meezan Digital Account Opening app, or at any Meezan branch. Online, you verify your mobile number by OTP (one-time password), enter your CNIC (computerised national identity card) details, complete biometric verification and take a live selfie. Meezan calls this “instant account opening”. The app accounts Meezan describes are for new customers and need no initial deposit. At a branch, bring your CNIC and proof of your income. Meezan’s Rupee Current and Rupee Savings accounts open with Rs100.

At a glance

How to open a Meezan account online

Meezan’s app for new accounts is Meezan Digital Account Opening, published by Meezan Bank Limited on Google Play and the App Store. Meezan’s website calls it the “Meezan Digital app”.

Meezan publishes these steps on its Digital Asaan, Digital Freelancer and Digital Remittance account pages:

  1. Download the Meezan Digital app on your phone.
  2. Turn on location.
  3. Verify your mobile number via OTP.
  4. Enter your ID (CNIC, etc.) details for verification.
  5. Give your occupation details.
  6. Complete biometric verification.
  7. Take a live selfie.
  8. Review your information and press submit.

For the Asaan Student Account, Meezan’s steps start with “Download Account Opening App”, “Tap on ‘Open a Bank Account’” and “Choose the Asaan Student Account”.

Which accounts open in the app. Meezan’s website describes these digital accounts. Each is in Pakistani rupees, as a current or a savings account, and each is for new Meezan customers only, one per customer:

  • Digital Asaan Account: for resident Pakistanis, with “No physical documentary requirements”.
  • Digital Freelancer Account: for resident Pakistanis who provide digital or online services, including IT. It is linked to a foreign currency retention account.
  • Digital Remittance Account: for resident Pakistanis who receive home remittances. Meezan tells existing customers to visit their parent branch instead.
  • Asaan Student Account: for students aged 18 to 24. You need a valid CNIC, proof of studentship (such as a student ID or fee voucher) and a SIM card registered in your name.

The app’s store listing says you can “open your preferred account”. Meezan’s own pages for its Rupee Current and Rupee Savings accounts list only the form, branch and call-back routes, so we can’t confirm which other accounts the app opens.

Verification. Under SBP’s (State Bank of Pakistan) rules for remote account opening, biometric verification comes first. If it is not possible, a bank uses Verisys with a check of your CNIC and mobile number pairing and an OTP or call-back. Failing that, the account can be opened with a debit block until you are verified.

How to open a Meezan account at a branch

Meezan’s product pages give three routes:

  • Download, print, fill form: download the printed Account Opening Form ↗, fill it in and submit it with your documents at your preferred branch.
  • Visit a branch: Meezan staff help you fill in the form and open the account.
  • Get contacted: fill in a form on the product page and a Meezan representative contacts you.

Meezan’s Plus Account page also says Meezan offers “the facility of filling its Account Opening Form online”.

Documents Meezan asks for

Meezan’s “Basic Documents Required for Accounts Opening” lists a copy of a valid ID document for every individual:

  • CNIC, SNIC, NICOP or SNICOP for Pakistani citizens (NICOP is the National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis);
  • POC (Pakistan Origin Card) for people of Pakistani origin;
  • a passport for foreign citizens, ARC for registered aliens, or a POR card for Afghan refugees;
  • Form-B or a Juvenile Card for minors.

You also need proof of profession or source of income. What that means depends on who you are:

If you cannot sign or have a shaky signature, Meezan asks for two recent passport-size photographs and right and left thumb impressions on the signature card. Meezan says it may ask for more documents for customer due diligence. The Asaan Current and Asaan Savings accounts are for people with limited proof of income. Meezan says they can be opened with Rs100 and a valid CNIC, SNIC, passport, NICOP, POC, ARC or pension book.

Asaan Account rules from SBP

An Asaan Account is SBP’s simplified account for people with limited proof of income. Under SBP’s Consolidated Customer Onboarding Framework (BPRD Circular No. 01 of 2025, July 25, 2025), a bank Asaan Account opened digitally or in person has these limits:

  • a maximum credit balance of PKR 3,000,000;
  • a debit limit of PKR 1,000,000 a month.

Meezan’s Asaan and Digital Asaan pages give the same figures. SBP allows credits above the limit for profit, return on deposit and foreign inward remittances, subject to the bank’s risk assessment. SBP says no charges may be imposed for breaching a limit. One person can open only one Asaan account in a single bank.

If you live abroad

Overseas Pakistanis, POC holders and non-resident foreign nationals can open a Meezan Roshan Digital Account online from meezanbank.com/roshan-digital-account ↗. Meezan says the account “will be opened within 48 hours subject to completion of all documentation and formalities”. See receiving money from abroad.

Warning Meezan Bank says it “will never contact any customer and request electronic banking credentials. If you get a call asking for your credentials, hang up and call us!” It also tells customers not to disclose their user ID, password and security image to anyone, including Meezan Bank employees. It warns of copycat websites with addresses very similar to meezanbank.com. On its official LinkedIn page in January 2026, Meezan said it does not call customers from its UAN numbers 021-111-331-331 and 021-111-331-332. A caller using those numbers to ask for your details is not the bank.
