UBL account opening: Asaan Digital requirements

Short answer UBL account opening through its Asaan Digital service is available to new UBL customers who are resident Pakistanis with a valid CNIC and are aged 18 or above. You need a mobile number registered against your CNIC, a digital signature and a live photo. UBL says no initial deposit or minimum balance is required. Complete biometric verification within 60 days to avoid a temporary block.

What to prepare

UBL’s Asaan Digital page lists these requirements. CNIC means computerised national identity card.

Customer status New customer, not already holding another UBL account

These requirements concern this product. UBL also offers other account-opening routes and account types on its online account-opening page. Do not assume that the simplified Asaan document list covers every UBL account or an overseas application.

At a glance

  • Initial deposit: none required for Asaan Digital (UBL ↗ · checked 2026-10-06)
  • Minimum balance: none required (UBL ↗ · checked 2026-10-06)
  • Account choices: conventional or Islamic current account (UBL ↗ · checked 2026-10-06)
  • Biometric deadline: within 60 days after activation (UBL ↗ · checked 2026-10-06)

Steps

  1. Start from UBL’s official account-opening page and select the appropriate product.
  2. Prepare your valid CNIC, your own CNIC-linked mobile number, signature copy and a device that can take the live photograph.
  3. Complete the bank’s application and income self-declaration for Asaan Digital.
  4. Respond to any request for clarification through UBL’s official channel.
  5. Wait for confirmation that the information has been verified and the account activated.
  6. Complete biometric verification within the bank’s 60-day window.

This is a preparation checklist drawn from UBL’s published requirements, not a report of an application tested by ptvold.

Activation and biometric verification are separate

UBL says an account can be used once the information is verified and an email confirms the account number. It may request additional information before activation. Submission of the form alone does not establish approval.

The bank’s page also says a non-biometrically verified account remains active for only 60 days and will be temporarily blocked if verification is not completed. It names the UBL Digital App, eligible ATMs and branches as verification routes.

That deadline matters even after an activation email. Keep it separate from the application stage rather than assuming online submission finishes every identity check.

Your mobile number must match

UBL says it authenticates the mobile number against the CNIC. If the two do not match, the account-opening process must stop. A family member’s number is therefore not interchangeable with a number registered in your own name for this service.

Check this before uploading documents. Use the bank’s own support channel to resolve an application issue; do not send CNIC images or verification codes to an account that contacted you unexpectedly.

Limits need a separate confirmation

UBL’s Asaan Digital page displays two different maximum credit-balance figures: its feature panel says Rs3 million, while a FAQ says Rs1 million. The FAQ also gives a monthly debit limit of Rs1 million. Confirm the current product limit with UBL before relying on either balance figure.

These are different measures. Maximum balance concerns money held in the account, while monthly debits concern outgoing activity. Neither figure should be read as an individual transfer limit. See IBFT charges and Raast payments for the payment channels.

Account opening does not make every service free

No initial deposit and no minimum balance do not establish that every card or transaction is free. UBL’s FAQ directs applicants to its Schedule of Charges for debit cards and cheque books.

Check the selected card and optional services before accepting them. This page does not estimate charges from an earlier tariff.

Warning Use the official UBL website and app. Never give another person your PIN, password or OTP, or pay an unofficial agent who promises guaranteed account approval.
