Where the code comes from

Bank AL Habib publishes its SWIFT code on its own website. Its notice on the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Gaza and Lebanon gives the fund’s account at the bank’s Karachi Main Branch with “Swift Code BAHLPKKA” and an IBAN that starts PK08BAHL. That IBAN belongs to the fund account; we show it only because it confirms the bank code BAHL.

The bank’s Roshan Digital Account page repeats the code. In its table of reduced charges on inward remittances, it lists BAHLPKKA for payments through Standard Chartered and Citibank, with “No additional details required.”

Roshan Digital Account holders

For a Roshan Digital Account (RDA), Bank AL Habib lists a separate code for payments through JPMorgan: BAHLPKKARDA. The bank says the sender should “Mention “ROSHAN DIGITAL” in field 70 or field 72 of the Swift MT-103 message.”

The bank’s table gives these charges per transaction on inward remittances to an RDA:

Bank AL Habib says it “does not charge AL Habib Roshan Digital Account (RDA) customers for incoming remittances. However, correspondent bank charges may apply.” Use BAHLPKKARDA only for an RDA; for an ordinary account, give BAHLPKKA.

Is there a separate code for each branch?

Bank AL Habib does not publish branch-level SWIFT codes or an 11-character form such as BAHLPKKAXXX. Code-lookup websites may list other codes, but the bank does not confirm them on its site, so we don’t repeat them. If a sender’s bank asks for an 11-character code, call the bank on (92-21) 111-014-014 first.

SWIFT code and IBAN are different

The SWIFT code identifies the bank. The IBAN (International Bank Account Number) identifies your own account. A sender abroad usually needs both.

Bank AL Habib’s IBAN Generator ↗ asks you to “Enter your 17 digits Bank AL Habib Account Number For Pakistan”. The bank asks customers “to quote the IBAN clearly and in full on all domestic and international financial transactions”. It says it is not responsible for errors caused by entering the wrong account number, so type it carefully.

Receiving money from abroad

Bank AL Habib says its Home Remittance Division handles money sent by overseas Pakistanis through its agents “free of cost to the remitter and the beneficiary”. It also pays MoneyGram transfers at its counters.

  • Bank AL Habib account: the bank says it aims to credit the money “on an instant basis” and sends an SMS alert if it has a correct mobile number.
  • Cash pick-up: ask the sender for the reference number or PIN code, visit any Bank AL Habib branch with it and your original CNIC (computerised national identity card) or passport, fill a simple form and collect the cash at the Home Remittance counter. The bank does not state a cash limit on this page.
  • Account at another bank: the bank says the money “will be transferred to your account accordingly.”
